We built the school we wished exsisted.
Shyan and Raul have been social dancers for over a decade- training under some of the best instructors in the Latin dance world, performing together as amateur partners at congresses across North America. But the compliment that has always meant the most to us doesn't come from judges—it comes from the people who stop us on the social floor to say, "When you dance, you can see how much you love each other."
When they moved to White Rock, they felt the gap immediately. The nearest Latin dance scene was in Vancouver. The commute killed the habit. So they decided to build what didn't exist.
The philosophy is simple: give people the right foundations, in the right order, and within seven weeks they can walk into any social and feel completely at home. Not performance. Not perfection. Just the floor, and the confidence to stay on it.
Raul Carrasco | Co-Founder & Director
Growing up in Mexico, Raul took music and movement for granted—until he stepped into the technical world of Latin social dance and fell completely in love with the craft. He immersed himself in intensive salsa and bachata training, rising quickly through performance teams under the tutelage of international champion dancers and social dancing across North America. A graduate of the Sauder School of Business at UBC with over a decade of leadership in high-touch tourism and hospitality, Raul views dance through the lens of client experience. He blends rigorous, structured breakdown of movement with natural Mexican warmth, ensuring every student feels heard, supported, and genuinely inspired from their very first step.
Shyan Carrasco | Co-Founder & Director
Shyan’s dance journey began in classical ballet and hip-hop before discovering Cuban salsa in her teens, performing as part of an elite all-ladies showcase team. She soon transitioned to LA-style On1 salsa, training under world-champion instructors and performing on major stages across Seattle, Las Vegas, and beyond.
Beyond the dance floor, Shyan holds a degree in fashion design with a background rooted in luxury apparel. She brings that signature aesthetic eye, sharp attention to detail, and devotion to quality into every touchpoint at Ritmo y Sabor—curating an environment that feels elevated, refined, and distinctly boutique.
